Getting Started
Hosting
VPS
What is a Steady VPS?
A virtual server with its own CPU, RAM and NVMe — not shared hosting.
Locations and operating systems
Only locations and images in the live catalogue can be ordered.
Manage a VPS in the portal
Power, IPs, metrics, console and credentials from your Steady account.
Resize a VPS
Move to a larger published plan without rebuilding from scratch.
Reinstall a VPS
Wipe the disk and install a published OS image again.
Backups and cancellation
Backups only when the capability is on. Cancel before the next renewal.
Choosing a VPS plan
CPU, RAM and NVMe from the live catalogue — not a guess.
SSH keys on a VPS
Public keys at order time. Private keys never leave your machine.
Console, metrics and traffic
When SSH is down, and what the graphs actually mean.
Domains
Search and register a domain
Live availability and prices, then registration in your name.
Domain pricing
First year, renewal and transfer — the same numbers the checker shows.
Transfer a domain in
Unlock at the current registrar, add the auth code, then Steady starts the move.
Manage a domain
Lock, auto-renew, dates, notices and activity in one place.
Renew a domain
Auto-renew by default, or pay a renewal from the portal.
Nameservers
Up to four nameservers. They decide who answers DNS for the domain.
DNS records
A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, CAA and ALIAS — when managed DNS is on.
Auth code and transfer lock
Lock to stop unexpected transfers. Auth code when you want to leave.
Point a domain at a VPS
A and AAAA records, nameservers, and TLS on the server.
Email on a domain
MX, SPF, DKIM and rDNS — Steady DNS vs a mail host.
Domain statuses
Active, pending, expired — what each state means in the portal.
Networking
Linux
Billing
API
Troubleshooting
My server is not reachable
Portal status first, then firewall, disk and SSH.
Domain is not resolving
Nameservers, records, TTL and the wrong host.
Transfer is stuck or refused
Lock, auth code, paid vs free transfers, registry mail.
Provisioning is taking a long time
VPS is usually minutes. Dedicated is not. What to check.
